Child Abuse Prevention Specialized License Plate

On Wednesday, July 28th, 1999, Governor Jane Hull and Arizona child advocates inveiled the new Child Abuse Prevention License Plate at the Child Crisis Center - East Valley in Mesa. These Special license plates will be available no later than January 1, 2000 through the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles.

Facts:

  • During one year in Arizona, 30,000 children are abused and neglected by their families.
  • On March 31, 1998, 261 children younger than 6 had already been in shelter for more than three weeks.
  • Today, 5 out of every 1000 children live in foster care.

How it Will Help?

Money from the new plates will create the Prevention of Child Abuse fund. This fund will provide monies for primary prevention programs statewide.

How it Will Work

Attractive, "kid-focused" license plates will be available for $25. $17 will go to the Governor's Office of Children to allocate monies to a private entity that guarantees matching of the monies 60 cents on the dollar and then further allocates monies for child abuse primary prevention programs.
